How Important is Sunlight and Vitamin D?

These days, people focus on getting enough vitamin A, B and C in their bodies, but one of the most neglected vitamins is vitamin D. You might be thinking, so what if it’s neglected? Is it even really that important? The answer is yes, it’s very important.

The reason for this is because people don’t have enough of two things these days which are sunlight and vitamin D. Of course, this is not meant to imply that the sun is gone or that there are no other ways to absorb vitamin D. This topic is merely meant to make the importance of vitamin D clear to those who might not be as knowledgeable about the matter.

Funnily enough, you don’t get vitamin D from sunlight. Rather, sunlight allows your body to make vitamin D which it would then use for overall health. You can also get vitamin D from food and health supplements. However, it’s much better to get it from the sun. This is why sunlight and vitamin D is best together.

How Does Vitamin D Help?

Grownups have been telling kids to take their vitamins to grow up healthy, but how does that work? Well, vitamins are simply substances that chemically react with the body to produce amazing results. Vitamin C boosts the immune system, Vitamin E helps with cell regeneration and Vitamin A helps maintain healthy eyes.

Likewise, sunlight and vitamin D helps maintain the body’s health which might lead to the following benefits:

Better absorption of Calcium and phosphorous
Better protection from certain diseases
Better muscular and cardiovascular motion
Better immunity
Better brain development
If you have ever noticed that you are feeling under the weather when you haven’t seen the sun in a while, now you know a likely reason for it.

Where to Get Vitamin D

As already mentioned, vitamin D is produced by the body with the help of sunlight through exposure. However, it can also be obtained through foods in small amounts and through supplements of varying potency. Unfortunately however, exposure to the sun’s rays has become less of a priority these days.

More alarming still is the lack of understanding of people that deficiency in both sunlight and vitamin D is causing all kinds of health issues to surface. If progress continues as it is doing today, people are going to have even less time to be exposed to sunlight in the future.
